Here’s the latest on the Suriya-Vivek Oberoi-starrer Rakta Charitra (RC), directed by Ram Gopal Varma.
The first look of the film and the theatrical trailer were released recently and if one is to go by Vivek’s claims, the trailer is on top of the list of the 10 most watched Bollywood videos on the Internet.
Vivek had recently tweeted, “Theatrical trailer of Rakta Charitra has raced ahead and has reached the No 1 spot in the Top 10 Videos within 12 hours of being featured.”
The actor was also full of praise for his co-star Suriya. He wrote, “Working with Suriya was an absolute delight, he’s an extremely talented actor and it shows in RC.”
Rakta Charitra is reportedly based on the life of the slain political leaderParitala Ravindra and will be released in October in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.
That seems to be the possible and probable thing that everyone is talking about. Salman Khan was so popular at the IIFA awardsthis year that very few people missed Amitabh Bachchan there! When asked who will be the better brand ambassador, most stars seemed to support Salman more. Salman himself, however, did not want to be an ambassador of the event! Watch the video to find out more about this!
Bipasha Basu is unfazed by an ad that shows her naked on a popular public video-streaming website
Being a celebrity can have its downside and Bipasha Basu discovered this rather rudely recently when an ad shot in 1999, which has her gloriously au naturel surfaced on You Tube. The ad, which shows her as a Rajasthani bride getting ready for her wedding to Vivek Oberoi, was released in New York in 1999 to advertise for a lottery whose tag line read ‘All you need is a dollar and a dream’.
In the course of getting dressed, Bipasha is shown nude, looking over her shoulder in a way that exposes her breast and as a shimmering dupatta is draped over her, she is seen from the back, entirely nude.
Bipasha is aghast at the mischievious mind responsible for unearthing the ad (which was never released in India) and posting it on the site. Not denying that it is her in the ad she says, “In 1999, I was a model living in the USA and that is where I wanted to make my career.
I was young and naïve and when I was told to turn towards the camera in the pose that eventually is in the ad, I did not understand anything about angles. In those days there was no monitor on the sets and I had no idea what was shot.” How obtuse, some might say.
“Becoming an actor was not something I had even thought of,” she continues. “I was a kid in bohemia. Today as a mature woman working in India, I would never do such a shoot, not because I have double standards, but because such shots are just not part of our sensibility. It isn’t cool here.”
Asked whether a body double was used, Bipasha laughed and pointed out that she remembers someone being there but she has no idea if it was her body double. “I have a very short memory and cannot remember anything that happened more than three years ago.
Honestly, I don’t remember anything specific about shooting the ad.” The specifics are out now. Further defending the ad, she says, “It is a beautiful ad and I look great in it. It’s neither sleazy nor a porn. I am proud of the way I look in it.” So are we.
Confiding that boyfriend John Abraham has no problem with the ad either, she says, “John is not hyper at all and neither are my parents. In fact, John told me I looked really hot in it. It is so wonderful to have a supportive boyfriend and parents.”
Amidst all the controversies, the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards 2010 is going to be a star-studded event with many Bollywood celebrities flying to the Island country Sri Lanka. The film festival will kick start on June 3 at Colombo and conclude on June 5.
Many Indian celebrities like Salman Khan, Lara Dutta, Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, Hrithik Roshan, Dino Morea, Boman Irani and others have confirmed their presence for the gala event. The film festival will also see performance from Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez, who has entered Bollywood. A charity cricket match will also be played between the Indian celebrities and Sri Lankan cricketers.
However, some big Bollywood names are going to give it a miss. The news is doing the rounds that Amitabh Bachchan, the brand ambassador of IIFA, has decided to skip the event following protests by Tamilians, who are against holding the film fest in Sri Lanka for the atrocities meted to the Tamilians in the country. It is said that besides the Bachchan family, big names like Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal will not attend the event.
After we reported that John Abraham was being signed for Van Heusen, here’s yet another news on the star. He has now been signed up by the electronics major Haier India, to be their brand ambassador. Sources close to us informed that this association will be for a span of two years and that John will be representing the entire product portfolio of the brand, including LCD TVs, washing machines, refrigerators and small kitchen appliances.
Looks like John Abraham is all set to make the fortunes of Haier India with his infectious smile.
