Story: An unidentified man, suffering a memory loss, in a bruised and battered state, is left in the desert to die. He manages to survive the brutal terrain and sets out on a journey to seek out his identity. Helping him in this arduous search are three young people who have their own ulterior motive behind the association. Will the ghosts from the past let the odd bunch of people survive the present?

Movie Review: Don’t be fooled by the banal title, which says nothing and even puts you off with its diktat: Soch Lo. And don’t miss the complete absence of hype and marketing. Because, this one’s completely different from the run-of-the-mill Bollywood film. And that is why it grabs eyeballs.

From it’s first few frames to its twist-in-the-tale climax, the film offers you enough masala to keep the minutes ticking….Like, a story that unfolds like a thriller; a bunch of actors who hardly look like actors, yet manage to build interesting characters, specially the lead actor, writer, producer, director, Sartaj Singh Pannu as the amnesiac, extremely violent man in search of his identity; like the grungy narrative style that stands out in stark contrast to the usual let’s-tell-a-fairy-tale Bollywood film; like the brilliant cinematography (Sandeep Patil) that cuts and slashes the screen, even as it captures the uninhabited expanse of Rajasthan in all its spiky splendour; like the punk rock music score (Nitesh Pires) which adds an unusual tenor to the proceedings.

Yes, Soch Lo is indeed the surprise package of the week, offering a new cinematic experience to the viewer who likes his cinema packaged differently: a bit over the top, unpredictable, absolutely edgy. Of course, there is the indifferent middle that bogs down the film a bit, where the bride on the run ( Iris Maity) can’t choose between her junkie boyfriend (Nishant Nanalah) who abducts her and her arranged-marriage fauji husband (Sartaj Singh Pannu) who confesses he loves her, just two days into their honeymoon. But the film slips back on track, as the cuckolded husband and his newfound friend ( Barkha Madan) set out on a desolate hunt to find the missing bride, thereby transforming the film into a riveting road movie.

Enough to give you bang for your buck, Soch Lo is adventurous cinema for the adventurous viewer.

Story: Madholal is a happy-go-lucky archetype of the aam aadmi who spends most of his time smiling, singing and sailing through life with a twinkle in his eye and a spring in his step.

He loves his family, loves his neighbours, loves his friends and loves his life, even though it doesn’t have much to offer in terms of material comforts….Yet, all it takes to shatter the calm is a bomb blast in terror-scarred Mumbai. Can Madholal regain the optimism and the positive spirit that kept him surging ahead, despite the fear-ridden environment?

Movie Review: Here’s another small and sensitive salute to the quintessential never-say-die spirit of Mumbai. It’s a familiar landscape of downtown Mumbai, spilling over with crumbling and crowded chawls with shared latrines, shared aalo paranthas, shared highs and lows and shared commutes in the Mumbai locals as the tenement dwellers set on their daily grind, minus complaints. Yes, there is a joyousness that makes up for this plaster-peeling, non-luxurious landscape as protagonist Madholal celebrates the small pleasures of life with his and family and friends.

The film essentially explores the effects of a terror attack on the common man who survives through it. And yes, it does it effectively. Madholal does manage to come out of the bomb explosion alive and injured, but the scars are more than superficial. The blast leaves his entire psyche bruised, transforming the ever-smiling, over-friendly Madho into a scared, scurrying, suspicious introvert who loses his ability to connect with friends, family and neighbours. Madho’s attempts to get back into the mainstream (read Mumbai locals) do have a heroic/humanist tenor to them, just as his family — wife and two daughters — creates a warm and vibrant picture of unflinching support and hope.

A brave little film about the small and brave Mumbaikar, Madholal Keep Walking is goodwill hunting in gloomy times.

Here’s the latest on the Suriya-Vivek Oberoi-starrer Rakta Charitra (RC), directed by Ram Gopal Varma.

The first look of the film and the theatrical trailer were released recently and if one is to go by Vivek’s claims, the trailer is on top of the list of the 10 most watched Bollywood videos on the Internet.

Vivek had recently tweeted, “Theatrical trailer of Rakta Charitra has raced ahead and has reached the No 1 spot in the Top 10 Videos within 12 hours of being featured.”

The actor was also full of praise for his co-star Suriya. He wrote, “Working with Suriya was an absolute delight, he’s an extremely talented actor and it shows in RC.”

Rakta Charitra is reportedly based on the life of the slain political leaderParitala Ravindra and will be released in October in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.
